Dear SEPI members,

We are proud and pleased to announce that the SEPI Executive Committee has initiated the publication of a new SEPI Newsletter, entitled The Integrative Therapist, with the inaugural issue scheduled for September, 2015.

The Committee has appointed myself, Jeffery Smith, MD as Editor and Jennifer Davidtz, PhD as Associate Editor and we are already hard at work readying the first issue.

We envision the Integrative Therapist as an informal, readable, actionable accompaniment to the Journal of Psychotherapy Integration. We are actively soliciting articles, preferably under 1,250 words, with an emphasis on furthering the SEPI mission of reducing barriers between cultures, nationalities, theoretical orientations and between clinicians and researchers. Please check submission guidelines appended below.

When SEPI announced the search for an Editor, I jumped at the opportunity. Having been in practice in Scarsdale, NY,  for almost 40 years and teaching psychotherapy to resident psychiatrists for almost as long, I have begun to take time out of the office to “play.” By that I mean writing, publishing, and learning more about my perennial interest, how psychotherapy actually works. The Editorship of the Newsletter promises to give me access to the latest and most interesting new discoveries from an unrestricted range of disciplines and to allow me to help spread the word not only to researchers but to clinicians, like myself, who need to integrate a rapid flow of new knowledge into their practices.

Jennifer Davidtz is Assistant Professor at the College of Psychology, Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL. She is a clinician, researcher and teacher and brings a wide range of interests and skills to the job, not to mention the perspective of her early life in South Africa and an understanding of how things look through younger eyes.
